After the successful completion of 1st training on ultrasonography in January 2021 for outgoing graduates and researchers, a three-day national workshop entitled “Hands-on Workshop on Ultrasonography in Bovines” for veterinary professionals/researchers and students was held at the College of Veterinary Sciences (CVS), Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences (FAHVS), The University of Agriculture Peshawar (UAP) on September 13-15, 2022.  The workshop was inaugurated by chief guest Professor Dr. Jehan Bakht, Vice Chancellor UAP. The vice chancellor congratulated the Dean FAHVS and Principal CVS for the historic step of introducing modern technology in the field of veterinary sciences at the college. He further elaborated that embracing new technology and diagnostics techniques is the need of the day for improvement in dairy animals practice. He appreciated the Society for Theriogenology and Reproductive Medicine (SFTRM) and said that such setups are critical for organizing useful events. The Society is an excellent platform for researchers and vets where problems can be identified and discussed and the future strategy for the solution of these problems could be reached.

Professor Dr. Sarzamin Khan, Dean of Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, thanked the chief guest and explained the importance of ultrasonography in the field of Theriogenology in bovines. He also put emphasis on the early diagnosis in the large animals. He said that high producing animals are growing productive day by day and can achieve the national target of milk and dairy requirement in the country and they can further be enhanced with the help of induction of new techniques and modern technology. Early pregnancy diagnosis can additionally improve the dairy farm production performance.

Professor Dr. Umar Sadique thanked the chief guest (VC) and Dean (FAHVS) for their encouraging remarks and explained that the application of modern technology in the field of livestock holds a critical importance in accurate diagnosis and keeping record at commercial dairy farms.

The organizer/co-coordinator of the workshop, Dr. Zia ur Rehman, focused on the practical implementation of hands-on ultrasonography and wished that it would hopefully update the professional skills of field veterinarians who are intensively busy in clinical reproductive case i.e. early pregnancy diagnosis, ovarian and uterine abnormalities (pyometra, endometritis, fetal mummification / maceration etc.) in their respective districts. Thirty veterinary doctors/ researchers and graduating students participated in this training.

In the last the certificates and shields were distributed among the participations and organizing team by Professor Dr. Umar Sadique and contributing organizations.
